Venezuela and Guatemala quit UN race

Venezuela and Guatemala have been fiercly contending for a seat on the UN security council in the last few months, and the decision has gone to 47 separate ballots in which there was no clear winner, though Guatemala was often ahead.

Both sides agreed to a compromise candidate, Panama. Venezuela, which was backed by all the anti-American regimes in the world, and Guatemala, which was backed by the US and other freedom-friendly nations, are now both agreeing to stop contending for the spot.

I've personally stopped caring about what happens on the UN security council at this point. I did not want Venezuela to get a spot on the Security Council, but besides them (and other obvious nations, like Iran, Sudan, North Korea, etc), I really don't care who is and who is not on the Security council. My reason? The Security Council is worthless, and cannot get anything done anyway. What exactly will the addition of one more member really achieve? Likely, nothing.

So, this news isn't good news or bad news. It's just news. Make of it what you will. As I said, I've personally stopped really caring, because anything that comes out of the UN is bound to be bad news.
