The Annoying Foley

This is a great story in the midst of Foleygate. Foley is a sick man, and an annoyance. He resigned from Congress, and is under investigation by both the legal system, and the House Ethics committee. What more could be asked for? What else could Foley, or anybody else do better than what has happened? They can't. This is the bottom line, but Democrats will not let it go - even though they fail to realize that there is no issue here.

Republicans share some of the blame. Even with a nuclear North Korea, something that should be on the forefront of every Republican Senator's mind going into the November elections, Foley is still being talked about. It's time to DROP FOLEY, and find something else to talk about. Foley resigned, and there is an investigation. That's enough.

The Democrats won't drop Foley, we know that. And that cannot be helped. The Republicans must come back with logical and well-reasoned arguments about important issues, like Immigration, Taxes, and the Global War on Islamic Fascism. The Republicans SHOULD NOT BE TALKING ABOUT FOLEY. There are much more important things for Republicans to talk about.

The continuous apologizing and promising investigations is not working. It is supposed to show the American people that the Republicans are not corrupt. Whether this is true or not is irrelevant. Most Americans believe politicians are corrupt anyway (myself included most of the time). The Republicans would be better served by pointing out why they are the better party on issues as wide ranging as Social Security reform, to warmaking. By continuing to bring up this Foley nonsense, the Republicans are only shooting themselves in the foot.

There is so much to talk about in these days leading up to the election - both domestically and internationally. The Republicans should step away from Foley, and start campaiging on the real issues. Above all, most Americans are sick of Foley. When the Republicans drop it, and the Democrats keep bringing it up, it will hurt Democrats.

But as long as Republicans continue to obsess over this issue, it will only hurt them. And with all the problems facing Republicans in November, drawing added attention to bad things is NEVER a good idea. The Republicans need all the help they can get - and Foley is not helping. The War on Terror helps. Immigration reform helps. Taxes help. But Foley does no good to anybody. GET OFF FOLEY.
