Today in rallies all over Baghdad and other parts of Iraq, rallies took place with a pro-Hezbollah stance, and an anti israel stance. This is disturbing for several reasons. First, under Saddam (a Sunni), the Shia' were massively oppressed, and killed in mass numbers. Because of the United States, they are now free to have these protests (which would have probably gotten them killed 5 years ago).
Secondly, these are the people we have died protecting, and helping. We have given the blood of Americans to help these people start a fledgling democracy and free their country from the evils of Islamo-fascism and dictatorships. And this is how they treat us? But chanting "death to Israel," and "Death to America" in the streets?
I know, much like the "peace" movements of our own country, these folks are in the minority in their country. But it makes one wonder. I've supported the war from the beginning, and I still support the war, and that support has not waned one bit in 4 years of war. Indeed, it has gotten stronger as I realize how necessary and vital this war is to the national security of my beloved country.
But can these people be helped?
Or do we just have to bomb them into submission?
